Georg Duckwitz

Germany

(1904-1973)

Maritime Attaché at the German Embassy in Copenhagen, was recognized as Righteous Among the Nations on March 29, 1971. Duckwitz was a disillusioned member of the Nazi party. In 1943 he told his contacts in the Danish Social Democratic Party of Germany’s imminent plan to deport Denmark’s Jews to death camps. The warning allowed the Danes to successfully move more than 7,000 Jews to Sweden.
