Princes Alice of Battenberg

United Kingdom

(1885-1969)

Was recognized as Righteous Among the Nations on March 11, 1993, for having sheltered Rachel Cohen and her daughter Tilde. Princess Alice, a great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria, married Prince Andrew of Greece and had five children, including the future Duke of Edinburgh, father of King Charles III. The Princess was congenitally deaf, but despite her disability devoted her life to charity. During the occupation of Athens by Nazi Germany, Princess Alice hid Rachel Cohen and her daughter in her residence, saving the two women from deportation to the death camps.
